The Eight Circuits of Consciousness is my illumination system of choice. As easy to use as the Chakra system and as multifaceted as the Kabbalah without the all the prerequisite theological or mathematical busy work, spoken in plain language.
Unfortunately time has not be so kind to the house the Leary and Wilson built. I felt it time to update and revise the language/terminology used to match modern nomenclature as well as patch some gaping holes that could serve as a stumbling block to the modern initiate who intends to use it as a tool for a traditional mystery school experience.
I’m sure there will be some that will not be pleased by the changes I’ve made. It was broke, so I fixed it. I’m also sure there will be some who do not understand that it functions in a radically different fashion to their own older more traditional systems and thus has a slightly different outcome. Different strokes. Different folks.
I plan on dedicating the entire fifth chapter of the Psychonaut Field Manual and a complete to the subject and an in depth pathway chart at Ultraculture but for now here is a “simple” map of the thing so you’ll get what all the fuss is about.
ULTRACOMICS IS GO! Here’s the first episode from a new comic I started at Ultraculture! I’ll be making a few these little guys a month to tide everyone over between chapters of the Psychonaut Field Manual.
Here’s the best part: YOU GET TO DECIDE WHAT EACH EPISODE WILL BE ABOUT.
Let me know what you guys want me to cover in the comment thingy below and I’ll make the next comic based your crazed occult addled whims, no matter how bananas, erry momf. So here goes. What do you want me to cover in the next comic?
An awesome Russian translation by members of CCP (ruckp.org) UoYsaHmooD and PsyDream. They put a lot of hard work into this translation and I’m very thankful, send them your love! :3
I'm just getting started with your guide and am coming from a very skeptical perspective. I until recently judged most things from a purely scientific perspective but recently decided to branch out a little. I'm only really on the meditation right now but i have read ahead a little but i am still having trouble with the first step, the belief. How do i overcome a life of pure logic and skepticism which i am struggling with despite a total willingness
A
I once held a similar perspective. Any belief system can be made into a working tool if used correctly. There’s no need to abandon logic or rationality. Rather, use that as your ticket in. For example you could embrace the belief that magic is a psychological/hallucinogenic experience rather than a mystical one and work from there. Think of it as brain hacking. Once you’ve got the tech working and producing results shed what you find to be false and formulate your own hypothesis based on what you’ve learned along the way. You don’t have to embrace a theological explanation of the universe to pull back the curtains and see the “hidden world” all around you but you do have to believe in yourself and your ability to do so. Good luck psychonaut! :3
This month triX celebrates the artist known as bluefluke, creator of the free, and undoubtedly ass-kicking PSYCHONAUGHT FIELD MANUAL, an expertly crafted, irreverent expose of practical diy chaos magic, with generous dollops of heart. He was kind enough to answer our 13 Questions challenge.
triX:
What inspired you to create the Psychonaught Field Manual?
bluefluke: Originally I had just planned on making simple one panel meme style images. Like “How to meditate!” or “How to create a servitor!” in a single small image that people could post on forums and image boards. I eventually made so many of them that it only made sense to put them together, rewrite a more descriptive narrative and make the thing into a comic book. I always wanted to make one and now I had an excuse.
tX:
What has the response been like?
bluefluke: It proved me wrong and restored my faith in the people. I was fully prepared to be swept under and drowned in a sea of “I’m King of the wizard people and you’re doing it wrong!” or “You’re an Illuminati shill selling *insert conspiracy here* to children!” But this imaginary army of ghoulish hate trolls and zealotous redneck barbarians never appeared. Instead it exploded on tumblr and reddit. Jason Luv even posted it on Ultraculture. Everyone has been so nice.
tX:
Who/What/Where do you consider your ‘magical home’/community?
bluefluke: The Discordian scene here in Cincy. It’s warm, loyal, open to new tech/ideas and artsy in all the right places. It’s a perfect spiritual incubator for someone like me. Fits like a glove.
tX:
Which artist inspires you most?
bluefluke: Moebius is my hero. Always will be. His work makes me want to be a better artist.
tX:
What kind of practices are you currently exploring/or have incorporated as personal discipline?
bluefluke: Automatic writing/drawing. It’s something I hadn’t taken much stock in previously but recent experimentations have yielded astonishing results. It’s good to be wrong.
tX:
How important do you find personal expression in magical work?
bluefluke: I truly believe creative endeavours such as art, writing and music are the very language of magic translated to the closest representation possible in the material world. I know that sound pretentious, don’t judge me. I am fragile.
tX:
How has art influenced your magic and vice versa?
bluefluke: As I said previously, I find it difficult to differentiate the two.
tX:
Are you familiar w the concept of ‘self-secret’?
bluefluke: If I understand the phrase correctly I’m assuming it to be similar to the concept of your Superconscious/HGA/Higher Self protecting you from ugly truths you cannot handle and only by “knowing thyself” can one see these truths clearly.
tX:
What, in your opinion, is the most annoying thing about the occult scene?
bluefluke: Egotistical jackassery and mindless zealotry. Never fully buy into anyone else’s bullshit. That goes double for you own bullshit. It’s a stumbling block and the death of magical/spiritual growth.
tX:
What is the most promising thing about the occult scene at the moment?
bluefluke: Thanks to the internet even the most highly guarded secret practice is open to the public for experimentation and peer review. The result is leaner meaner more effective tech that can be shared and improved on by larger groups than at any other point in history. Moreover, a grand and unprecedented sort of “interfaith” dialog now exists between people who would have, even a decade ago, never considered each other peers, much less as friends. A Chaos magician, a Mason and a Taoist walk into a bar…
tX:
How did you get into illustration/drawing?
bluefluke: I learned to draw using an NES emulator that would allow you to replace in game graphics with your own. It was a great teacher because it forced you to be creative in order to get the most out of the consoles (very) limited graphical abilities. Although I’ve shed these restraints I still use many of these techniques which is why people tend to find my art style “familiar” but can’t quite put their finger on why this is so.
tX:
Are there more publications and/or projects currently in the pipeline?
bluefluke: Besides the Psychonaut Field Manual I’m working on a Tarot deck made for both divinatory and Kabbalistic practitioners equally and respectively. I’m hoping to release it sometime in october. Fingers crossed!
tX: If you could weave one grand spell for humanity, what would it be?
bluefluke: I would weave into us a greater empathy so as that we might unite into a greater whole, Babylon style.
Are there any particular books on the symbolism of the Tarot that you recommend?
A
By now I’m sure you’ve seen through the paper thin divinational disguise the Tarot parades as to fool the normals and are wishing to gaze deeper into serious business occultism.
Thusly you understand that the Tarot is in fact a decryption key that can unlock all the secrets hidden deep within the Western Esoteric Mystery Tradition if only one has the eye to see.
Enter Rachel Pollack’s “Seventy Eight Degrees Of Wisdom” and Amy M. Wall’s “The Tarot Of The Awakening”. While brilliant on their own I greatly suggest picking up both as they tend to fill each other’s gaps.
Clever maps to a challenging labyrinth, they’ll lay bare the locations of treasures within without spoiling the contents thereof. These are underappreciated classics that will, with time, become staples of western enlightenment. Obtain them by any means necessary.
Hey just finished chapter 2 and you say "don't invite them in and banish everytime" How do I go about banishing something :)? I don't want to assume it's just "I banish you away, goodbye" if it's an important thing I need to do :D Awesome art by the way, I love the style! Keep up the good work ^-^
A
Here’s an easy banishing program that functions by creating and cleansing (i.e. nuking) a symbol of the area. However, any banishing ritual (best of all, one of your own creation) will work as long as you project authority and do not deviatefrom therules laid down by whatever ritual you choose. Keep in mind that because you are aphysical being that you are the boss of the physical realm, they’re just a guest. It’s the rules. Now, if you hopped into the astral realm at their behest it would be the other way around, ya dig?. It’s sounds bananas but if you invite them in your house (the physical realm) and they accept they have to play by the rules of your house. Rapping everything up in an overarching ritual lays down the ground rules that they must abide by. It’s best to plan out your entire evocational ritual from beginning to end, in great detail. Stick to these rules. Assert your authority. Be the boss. :3
So David Goddard, you like deleting comments eh? Welcome to the internet.
Your view of Chaos magic is deeply flawed and ignorant. It’s entire purpose is to give working tools to secular types who need flexibility and reason in their spiritual practice. Their thirst for Gnosis and illumination is every bit as valid as yours. Your need for some deep dark spooky adversary is a egocentric nonsense and a character flaw you should attend to rather than projecting your childish mean spirited hatred on those whose spiritual needs differ from your own. Zealots like you are why this world is so ugly.
Heyo Bluefluke, I was wondering how one could find their true self and secondly how someone would heal themselves. Spirituality at the deepest level is very important to me, but I know that I won't be able to go beyond step two without healing.
A
The easiest way to know your true self is to observe your reactions to everyday behavior and gauge your emotional responses. Every time you react to something good or bad, no matter how trivial, ask yourself “Why did I do that?” and “Why do I feel that way?”
It sounds super cheesy but if you keep at it for a few weeks you’ll start to understand your subconscious and it’s patterns. You’ll start to see things that your brain does without your permission automatically and even though it at first seemed like it was you making those decisions that it is the false self pretending to be you, as weird as it sounds.
As far as healing goes you have to do two things:
First, forgive yourself. You are not perfect and you’re not supposed to be, otherwise you wouldn’t learn anything.
Don’t hate yourself for flaws you can’t control and don’t punish yourself for mistakes, just learn from them.
Your flaws and mistakes are battle scars, wear them proudly. The more pain you can endure the more of a badass you are and later in life you’ll be able to survive when others would crumble. Easier said than done, I know full well. It hurts. But no one that has ever done anything important didn’t get the shit kicked out of them physically and emotionally.
Second, figure out what you like about yourself and celebrate it. Swim in the joy of your own awesomeness. If others don’t like that about you, fuck ‘em. You don’t have to fit in, you don’t have to conform. Refuse, resist. Because in a few years the only people in your life will be those you allow to be there. Like minds find each other and you’ll be surrounded by people that love you for the same reason you love yourself.
Stick in there psychonaut. I believe in you and you should too.
Fun drawing for Billy Brujo, one of my favorite occultists on youtube. His recipes are concise, clever and funny. My kinda guy. CHECK HIM OUT BY CLICKING HERE! :3
If i wanted to read and learn more on the subjects you've been covering in your work, where would you direct me? Thanks!
A
1: If you’re interested in a Chaos centric curriculum start with Prometheus Rising so that you understand the underlying machinery of magic itself, which is the mapping and manipulation of the human mind. You’ll need to make changes to your software in order to get it to do things it’s not supposed to.
Next, hit up Liber Null and Condensed Chaos. Peter Carroll has better tech but Phil Hine has better explanations. Take what you find helpful between the two and discard the rest.
After that jump into Chaotopia by Dave Lee, he fills in the gaps and clarifies by using plain language and a solid narrative to glue the thing together. Fun tech too!
Finally, have some Prime Chaos and Liber Kaos to round out the thing and dive into the more heavy shizzle. As before take what works for you and discard the rest. The most important thing here is to make clear your own true will and illuminate the path that is most appealing to you. It’s your universe, make the most of it.
2: Visual Magick and Thought Forms will help you get freaky with your third eye and get your visualization abilities up to spec. DO NOT skip third eye meditations, otherwise you’ll be one of those fools using black mirrors, crystal balls and smoke stacks just to see the astral stuff in real time. No. That’s weaksauce as fuck. Third eye meditations, do them. Do them until you can overlay astral images over your physical (i.e. normal) vision. That’s the mark of a real magician.
3: Astral Dynamics and Frequency will level up your astral body and make you a for really real astralnaut. Few things can prepare you for the wonders ahead. The universe and thereby the inner connectivity of biological life will be made clear and shatter your preconceived notions (i.e. lies people told you) about the reality of this beautiful/ugly infinite machine we are a part of. Nothing can prepare you for this. It will break you. It will renew you. It will answer every question you’ve ever had and at the same time create an equal number of questions that may never be quenched.
4: Seventy Eight Degrees Of Wisdom and The Tarot Of The Awakening will reveal the true nature of the thing… Sure, they can be used for divination. But they can also be used as a decoder ring for an endless variety of tools and even break down Western Illumination itself. Do what makes you feel good. It’s not the only path.
5: The Pyschick Bible, The Secret Teaching Of All Ages, Book Of Lies and Low Magick are not instruction manuals. They are wisdom. Just as precious. Each volume will give you a greater understanding of the subject at hand and will guide you through the storm. Remember, there are dark nights ahead. They will utterly destroy you. You will be torn down and built up again. This is the law. But survive it and you win the game.
Good luck Psychonaut, I believe in you. I love you. Kick ass and chew bubble gum. Resist, refuse. You are a magician, you are the few. One love, one world, one light. Forever.
